
1. What is presbyopia and will Lasik surgery lead to presbyopia?
Presbyopia is the need of external reading glasses to help focusing for near work as the nature ability to focus diminish after the age of about 42. Lasik surgery will not itself lead to presbyopia but for those patients after the age pf 42 who opt for full correction, the natural need for reading glasses may become obvious.
2. Is the procedure painful?
Most patients do not find it painful during the procedure; sometimes, it can be uncomfortable when the eyelids are widely held open by the wire speculum. Post-operatively, most patients will experience some watery and stinging sensation for about 4 to 6 hours.
3. When can I go back to work?
Most patients wake up the next morning free from significant discomfort and achieve fairly good vision for ordinary work although they may not yet achieve the best possible vision. After having the eyes examined on the first post-operative day, normal non-labouring office work can be resumed. Those working in dusty outdoor environment may opt to have two to three resulting days before resuming work.
4. How safe is the surgery?
Which the majority of patients have highly satisfactory results, one must be aware of and accept the possibility of complications. The following should be explored and further explained by qualified personnel.

5. After surgery, will the corrected refractive error returns because of , say, using the computer for prolonged period of time?
Stability of refraction after surgery usually occurs after approximately six months and the altered corneal curvature is expected to remain stable. No environmental factor including usage of computers should cause the refractive to de-stablise.
6. When can I resume sports, and other activities like sauna?
Over the first week after surgery, one should take all possible measure to avoid disrupting the placement of the corneal flap by rubbing the eye. Generally, one should avoid make-up, vigorous exercise, steam bath/sauna, cosmetic 'facial" treatment in the first or even the second week. Swimming should be avoided in the first post-operative month.
